Metroelectric PLC is a com­pany quoted on the stock exchange, set up to sup­ply and dis­trib­ute elec­tric vehicles.

In December 2009, we acquired the UK’s lead­ing sup­plier of elec­tric­ally assisted bicycles known as Powabyke www.powabyke.com. Powabyke have sold over 32,000 e-bikes since 1999. Our elec­tric bikes typ­ic­ally have a range of approx­im­ately 15 miles (with no pedal assist) at 15mph – no driv­ing licence or num­ber plates neces­sary. We also qual­ify for the ‘cycle to work’ scheme.

Research con­duc­ted by Leeds University on over 3,000 of our cus­tom­ers found that 77% of users now use their bike daily and 38% replaced their car jour­neys to ride our bikes – and a stag­ger­ing 97% would recom­mend us to their friends. We also found that the aver­age annual mileage on a Powabyke was 1,200 miles com­pared to just 120 miles on a nor­mal bike

We are cur­rently seek­ing more inter­na­tional part­ners to rep­res­ent the Powabyke brand world­wide.

A num­ber of elec­tric vehicle man­u­fac­tur­ers are work­ing with us to achieve EC homo­log­a­tion of a range of vehicles (e-cars and e-vans). By Autumn 2010, UK avail­ab­il­ity is expec­ted.

In April 2010, we announced a maiden profit for the first quarter of this year.
